Lesson One: Introductions

“We’re almost there and nowhere near it. All that matters is we’re going.” ~ Lorelai (Gilmore Girls)

Me first! Me first! I'm the momma and since he can't type (or read) I get to go first.

Let's see, I'm a closing-in on 30 year old (EEK!), mother of one, wife to my own hero, and keeper of two black labs. My day job is keeping the toddler and dogs (collectively, my 3 stooges) alive and well. This includes, cleaning, loving, cooking, cuddling, chasing, playing, laundry, more cleaning, more cooking... and so the cycle goes. My night job is much of the same, only add in the husband to the mix.

I love to bake and I love to read. I devour books much like a good meal so they really go hand-in-hand for me.
I adore anything that allows me creative allowance in my kitchen. My husband is the griller and when we get to create a meal together, it's delicious magic.

I, truly, love anything that allows me to be creative. Hence why, my toddler is so much fun! I get to play and create all over again. Like a second childhood with the best little friend ever!

Speaking of my sidekick...

He's almost three (EEK!), he loves to play outside, run, be dirty, wrestle with the dogs and his dad. He LOVES numbers! He can count to 20 and backwards from 10 in English, to 10 in Italian, and his own version of 1-3 in French. His favorite show is Team Umizoomi and even though he has the DVD memorized, I still smile when he interacts with the show. He also loves his letters. He's knows both upper- and lowercase letters and can match them, when in the mood. Add in, his knowledge of shapes, colors and other random things he tells me and this is why I was so excited to start a homeschool plan for him.

I should quickly mention, we're military. Currently, living far from "home" in Italy. So, crazy lady here, I decided that I would add on homeschooling to our overseas adventure. I wanted a secure and stable academic plan for his first years and that's why I decided homeschooling was our best choice.

When I finally got my mind set that I wanted to homeschool him, I, of course, turned to the Internet. Holy homeschool options, guys! But, with this being our first year and more of a test run to see how we (mostly, I) do, I didn't want to pay my toddler's future college tuition in homeschool equipment. I mean, he's only two as of today. His attention span is 20 minutes, give or take, if it's something he's really into. So, I kept searching.
Finally, I came upon a wonderful little blog by a mom who is homeschooling her two girls (in an African Wildlife Preserve!!) and has generously put her lessons online, for free! It was a total DIY kind of thing and exactly what I was looking for!

This is where my inspirations came from. She's amazing and made it so simple!
So, my blog will follow in and about her lesson plans, some of my own, and some things totally unplanned I'm sure.

My main goals are: not to get frustrated if a day's project doesn't get done, have patience, learn WITH him, follow his lead, and to have fun watching my sidekick grow and learn more every day!

My main goals for him are: repeat, repeat, repeat myself and let his little mind soak up all the information I give him. I want him to enjoy this and not see it as "work". He loves to learn already and I just want to enhance his learning experiences.

Welcome to our newest adventure! I hope you enjoy and learn along with us!

  1. Wishing you luck with your homeschool and I'm so glad you are finding our lesson plans helpful. I hope your son enjoys them as much as my girls do - it will be so fun to hear about life in Italy.
